Nut for a Disston handsaw
I found an old Disston handsaw in the shed at my mum's place. Its at the beach, so with the salt air the saw could do with a bit of maintenance. There are 4 bolts holding the handle to the blade, and there is a nut missing from one of them. Does anyone know where you can get a replacement nut?

I believe they're called split nuts and not readily available any more. There was a thread a while back about them.

Hi Tom
The best thing you can do is send it to me and i will look after it
try a saw sharpeningn service in the yellow pages some times they have spare nuts and bolts they sell and charge about $2 to $5 depending on the shop
try this link for history and dating your saw

I've got about 4 of those things from an old large rip saw I scavanged recently from an old dairy I was working at recently. You can have one if you want...... just not sure if it'll fit your saw. Probably will.

ok Tom.....I'll be standing by ! ... One of these things I've got is stamped with the disson name, so I'd imagine it be the same.
