    Chris, thanks for the link.

LN is late to the show, they are simply stretching their standard Bench Chisel to gain access to pairing chisel market. This is however no reason not to do another batch. Because our chisels are modeled on the Blue Spruce/Robert Sorby Chisels, which are fine pairing chisels. Were the LN are bench chisels.

Secondly our chisels is M2 HSS were everyone else except Harold & Saxon is A2 or O1. M2 is a much better choice for abrasive Australian hardwoods.

Thirdly our fine pairing chisels that we make are made in Australia by local companies so the money stays in Australia.

Another reason is cost we make a chisel between $50 to $65 which is less then half what you will pay for a Blue Spruce Chisel which are $120 US. With the AU dollar being high now the LN cost is $65 if you buy from the US. The Robert Sorby Chisels are not very well made, the sets I have inspected are bent and not as well finished as ours, and the steel is very soft and exactly what type the steel is unknown.

We also give members more choice if they want to make their own custom handles or use the standard handles and if the bevels are ground or not. Allot of blokes like to make or customize their tools. But are unable to do so because the raw materials is out of their reach. We make this a possibility.

The problem with our chisels is that you have to assemble them yourself at this point. They are also evolving, as we refine their look and feel. That is why I welcome feedback from user, so we can make them better. That is why I have modified my partial set so much. I am calling them version 1.5. Also we do not have a brand name on them. however I am working on this. TS or Thumbsucker has been suggested to me. However if anyone else can think of something better that would be great.

Lastly, the next chisel order will form part of my University assessment next year as the head of workshop wants me to pursue my passion for tool making. I am working out the details at the moment. However it is my intention to make some mortising chisels, bench chisels, a few bronze cast planes, and a few other items.

I will be taking a Cert. 2 in Engineering at TAFE to learn about milling and metal lathe, so that I can learn how to make these tools myself in house. I will be learning bronze casting at the university bronze foundry, and hope to work in Gold & Silver to learn about polishing and finishing tools to jewelry standard. Giving me the possibility to establish myself as a toolmaker once I finish my studies.

We have a very small area on to which any mark can be made. It must fit on an area no greater then 6 x 6 mm. If the smallest chisel marked is the 6 mm or 3 x 6 mm if the 3 mm chisel gets a mark.

So either a logo, or two letters is the best we can do.

    That is why

    TS OR HB OR M2

OR we use a word & icon on the wider chisels and only an icon on the narrower chisels.

I was thinking of a thumbs up icon would be cool. However if the chisel was viewed from the rear the thumb would be down, which would be a no no.

Great to hear we may have an another top quality tool Australian tool maker on the way. The dovetail and mortice chisels sound very interesting!
My concern was you could be leaving youself financially exposed if LN were to come along with their better known brand.
