Thread: Perkins Universal Trimmer (Mitre Trimmer) info wanted

I have just acquired a Perkins Universal Trimmer (Mitre Trimmer), model 13-2 made in approx 1895. This is one tool for the men and not boys: it dwarfs the new ones that one can find for sale such as the "Lion trimmer".
It is 840mm wide, 900mm or so high, and weighs in at 65 kg (takes 2 to lift it if you want to retain all of your fingers!). The plane shown in front for scale is a Stanley #4 smoother. The knives on this puppy are 3 1/2" wide, 3/8" thick and the edge is over 7" long.
Was sold by Thomas Mc Pherson in Collins St Melbourne.

I am looking for more information on this beast as there seems to be scant info out there. There are a few references to it's smaller cousin the No 8 Perkins Universal Trimmer which has the single handle in the centre of the upper arch.
