My mini skew arrived today, nice work Ray and Josh

Just an update to say that and Tea Lady, now have the ferrules, they have a reference socket, they have all the wood they need bar 4 pieces (I need ACER to respond to my PM's). Yesterday I deposited $513 into 's account. says it will take them one or two weeks to complete the job.

and Tea Lady will send the finished items to RayG, who will pack up the firmer chisels with the handles, sockets and the ferrules.

I will send out a PM to everyone who has ordered firmer or paring chisels to collect the $5 shortfall per chisel, today.

See the attached file below which lists what you are down. I have added a green column at the end that is a total number of what you are ordered, simple take this number and multiple by $5 to get the amount you need to despot.

Shortfall Origin

The price quoted at the start is a projection and unforeseen costs always arise. We had cost overruns in the steel, we paid more then we projected. You can go back to the original thread and read the problems we had. Then the waterjet cutter stuffed up (they cut blanks from the middle of the sheet that was not ours) costing us another $600 of steel that had to be paid to RayG who gave us some of his steel. Then we needed to pay the waterjet cutter extra because they cut extras. Then the price for turning the handles jumped from $4 to $6 (this added $342 to the cost) so as to be fair to and Tea Lady. Then we had to buy brass for the ferrules added another $120. Then their is the cost of posting items, from George White Brass, to burraboy. Then has to post all the handles and the Ferrules to RayG (coming up to $100). At this point $600 + $342 + $120 + $100 is already at $1162. These have all have cut into the budget leaving us short at this point.

That glenlara name was only used because I lost my other one "Pagie". I got Pagie back now and my PM box is empty.

Skew arrived today. Probably much too good for my moderate skill level. Will fit a silver ash handle.

This is the 2" paring chisel.Chisel 2.jpgThe handle is a bit of a branch from next door. I only had a bit of copper for the bashing end.

That handle's come up really well. Any idea what the timber is? The chisel on the right looks a bit like the poor relation (in several regards) and I'm a little concerned that Terry will find out you have drilled a hole in his shave .

I had to hang the shave up, my shave now, as it kept falling on the floor. I use tools, I dont think Terry would care as tools are made to use. I think the timber for the handle is elm or ash. A deciduous tree anyway that was pruned next door. I have a fair bit of it.

I think I may have missed something ........ Am I correct in assuming the Paring chisels are finished and just waiting for the handles and Firmer's to be finished so they can all be posted together?

Firmer chisels are almost finished, and the paring chisels are about to start to be made.

Excellent job of the handle pagie!

Wow it looks even more imposing with a handle on it.

I have a couple of questions for you if you don't mind as I don't have any cryogenically heat treated high tech high speed M2 steel chisels in my workshop (ok.. well I have 100's of them but none mine and none with handles ) and am very interested in what is it like to use? How does the edge hold up? What is it like to sharpen? What does it feel like to pound on? What does it feel like to pare with? anything else that comes to mind...?

It feels fine to use. I have only played with it a bit. But it is good to hit on and pare with. I am going to learn how to use such a big chisel, it is like a sword. It is very smooth, I scratched the back when I tried to sharpen it. Sorry, you made it look nice and it took me only a couple of minutes to scratch it. no problems it will be polished again when I get time. I like it, great job everyone.
