As I previously offered I am happy to get them not assembled so I can match them to the firmer chisels I have.

    Hi Bill,

Everything is still packed away, I was thinking it would be good to get finished on the last few before Christmas as well.

    Regards
    Ray

Just friendly bump just to keep these things fresh in our thoughts. Ray, if these chisels do make an appearance I'm still keen. Respectfully, Kev.

Thanks Kev, everything is still packed away, with the impending lockdown coming, I might be able to focus on getting the last few finished.

I appreciate the patience. And feel guilty about not being able to finish it off.

    Regards
    Ray

    Hello Ray,
A bump to keep the thread current. What is the state of play with the outstanding chisels?

    Default Status of chisel order.

    Hello Ray,
I am keen to know when I can expect my chisel order, this group buy has been ongoing for many years.
There is no recent information/dialogue with nothing posted since last year.
Is there a problem with the order, are you short of stock?
If for whatever reason you have no expectation of making delivery in the near future I will accept your offer to refund the money of those unprepared to wait.
I would be interested to know how many sets remain unfinished, if there are others they are extremely patient, maybe they are younger than I
Please let me know where I stand.
    Regards, Bill Garthe

Wow - is this thing STILL going????? When this started, "global warming" wasn't even a thing !

The group buy that killed off group buys on this forum.

    Default Status of Chisel Order

I have to agree with Gnu52. It would be nice to know when this is likely to be finished. I put ~$400 into it around a decade ago. I don't know if Thumsucker is still on the forum but I believe he is the one who started the process. Ray has been finishing it but it has been a very slow process. It would be nice to close the whole thing off on a positive note.

    Hello Acer,
Like you I have ordered, and paid for, a full set of long bevel chisels including 2 skew chisels. At one point there was a shortfall in the group funds and I contributed more money because I though that was fair and reasonable.
I had bought and received a set of firmer chisels in the original group buy, I use them and really like them.
That first buy successfully completed I then ordered the set of bevels so as to have matched sets, even built a wall cabinet to house them. At this point it remains half full, I had intended that in time it would be passed down the family. Hopefully that will still occur, I just don't understand why there is such delay.
I imagine your experience is similar.
    Regards, Bill Garthe.

    Default Chisel Make Status

    Hi Gnu62,
I particpated in the first chisel buy and needed some more to infill a fair few missing sizes, so participated in the second. I had hoped for a quality full set to use. Unfortunately that has not been the case. I'm still using my old Footprint Red Handles and some other chisels most of the time. Hopefully Ray will chime in and let us know when we can close this all off. I have to say I don't spend much time on this forum anymore and only check in every six months or so. Otherwise only when this thread has any activity.
    Cheers
    Acer

Here we are a few years down the track and still no chisels.
I am more than a little frustrated by all of this. I know things go pear shaped but this is just frustrating.

I was in on, I think, the first run of tool steel many years ago. The pic is the steel we got. I have a longer set of blades I've not touched, yet .

It was a raving success and soon there was a second ordered with plane blades and such... Is this the same order or was there more later.

Did you guys all pay and now there's nothing so show?

I'm pretty sure this is the second order, which originated something like 12 years ago or more??

I have a couple of paring chisels from the first batch which preceded this, and frankly they are nothing to write home about. Heat treatment is definitely sub-optimal.

Apologies for the long delay, I got a PM from Helmut asking me to post here.

There are only a few sets remaining to be posted, and at present they are packed away.

I'll get them out of storage and provide an update on what needs to be done to finish them in the next few days.

I bought some plane irons in one of the group buys. IIRC I got a No.8 iron and two irons for a carriage rebate plane (#10, 10 1/4, 10 1/2). I did the artwork for the rebate iron myself and sent it through. Unfortunately someone altered the artwork to stretch the design. That resulted in the large opening in the slot (to pass the screw head through) coinciding with the location of the screw. As a result the two irons are next to useless.

I was very disappointed at the time.

The moral of the story is: group buys are probably best avoided - which is a shame.

Anyway, I may be wrong, but I believe Ray is doing this work to help out, and gratis - it's not his project. So don't be hard on him for the delays.

    Cheers, Vann.
