The chisels certainly look familiar, can't vouch for the plane blades.
They look like the "Tombstone" plane blades which were made during one of these group thingy's
I think they might be from an earlier batch, although the chisels look similar, the skew angles look different, I don't recognize the plane blades, maybe someone can id them.
For those few still waiting. I didn't get back from working in WA until Christmas eve, so didn't get the last batch shipped. Next week is clear and I'm hoping to get a clear run ( If I can get the workshop back in order! )
Regards
Ray
Thanks guys I thought I'd seen them before when I found them in a pile of old blades the guys son was selling. He thought they were cheap Chinese blades so I picked them up for $10 each and the set of chisels for $20. I knew I'd seen the blade shape somewhere but couldn't remember where.
Thank you
Daniel
Confirmed that are from the woodworking batch orders. I made the tombstone blades unique so that in future they would be identifiable as belonging to this forum and these batch orders.
The chisel belong to latest / this batch order. The brass ferrule design belong the most recent chisel batch order. The first chisel batch order had a different short ferrule shape.
The handles & ferules for the first chisel batch order was inspired by Blue Spruce Toolworks were the second were drawn more from Harold & Saxon.
This is what the first batch of chisels look like:

Can some point me to the right thread to show me how others joined the chisels to the handles?
Browse this thread, a few people posted how they did it.
Basically you need to dock of the round eyes off on the end chisel tangs. (Angle grinder or bench grinder will suffice)
Then you need to open up the mortise / slots in the brass ferrule by about 0.5mm. You want a tight fit. The hard steel will deform/peen the soft brass. A small thin jewellers file works well however in a pinch you can spray adhesive some Wet & dry paper to a piece of 2.5mm wood/metal strip
Then you will need to cut a tapered mortise in the wooden handle, people have found using a 3mm chisel works best for this operation. Drill a 3mm hole in the middle, then pare a tapered mortise until the tang fits.
If you do it correctly and carefully you will need no glue just friction.
Thanks thumbsucker I've got some nice jewellery files and A good little Mathieson 3mm chisel. Looks like I now a job for the weekend.
Hello Ray,
A bump to get this back to the front page.
Am I correct in thinking the machining is completed?
Regards, Bill Garthe
Hi Bill,
All the machining was finished ages ago, it's just a matter of fitting handles and final details. I'm struggling to find workshop time, but just last week I had a major clean up, and will be back for the final few in the next few weeks.
Ray
PS You can see the nice clean workshop here :) https://www.woodworkforums.com/f303/l.../2#post2074500
Bump to keep this current.
Any progress?
Bill
Hello Ray,
A bump to keep the thread current & enquire into progress.
I don't want to seem pushy but I am very keen to get my chisels as time is becoming an issue for me.
I am happy to assemble them myself if that helps, mainly because I fitted accents to the handles on my first set & could have both sets matching.
Regards Bill
