I am after a plane blade ideally around 50mm wide....but will be happy to buy a blade off someone if they have a spare that they are willing to part with. cheers szczepan................ps...RayG did give me his kind permission to post my request in this thread....thanks RayG...............oh.....and please send me a PM if that suits.

Default Plane Blades and Chisels ( A progress report )

    Josh/RayG

Given that its been another ten days and Helmut has not provided an update, are you able to give an update on where the chisels, be they firmers or parers, are at?

I don't see why we have to wait for Helmut to contact you just to then pass the information on to us.

    Hi Ray,

No, no change at this stage, the next thing to happen will be posting out the firmer chisels with ferrules and handles, I think is going to come up for a visit, but I don't have a date for that yet.

    Regards
    Ray

    Hi Ray,

Still got to set up some tooling and fixtures to be able to grind accurately enough.

Hmm... I think they will go pretty quick when we get the setup right. It's just an extremely tricky grinding operation. We will be able to concentrate more on it when the firmer chisels are all delivered.

Sorry I have been unable to respond. I have moved house in the last two weeks, I am doing fulltime study, and I am doing my first placement as a secondary teacher (design/technology). Combined with an array of personal problems I have been straining under the load. I also do not have computer access as the school regards the forum is a negative influnce as its blacklisted as a chat service. So I can only "chat" via the public library. In an age of hyper connectivity, I am very disconnected.

I will transfere the remaining funds to pay in the next day or two. The rest will go to RayG & Josh for postage.

I will try to keep an eye on things as best as I can at the moment.

I feel like I'm in a grand experiment to see how long you can keep like minded people placated with platitudes before they crack and start getting petulant!
Two months ago the Firmer chisels where ready to go, 13 days ago it was just a case of posting them???
Can someone please break the unbearable silence and say what is going on? Is there a shortage of money, hasn't someone been paid that will progress this project or is it simply that it is a hobby that is being put aside because everyone is incredibly busy on their real jobs.
I don't care what the problem is, but tell us so we can try and resolve the problem because we are all partners in this project and I would like to see my chisels before they become inheritance.
    Regards
    Mick

And the parers? Not being part of the firmers orders, my interest in them extends only so far as they are stopping anything happening with the parer chisels it seems.

Petulant was quite a few months ago, now it's more angry than anything.

    Hi Ray,

No the firmers aren't holding up the paring chisels, the thing holding up the paring chisels is how to grind the bevels with zero margin for error.

Josh has been grinding paring chisels ( getting flat for the next stage ) for the past few weeks. So it's coming along.

    Regards
    Ray
