    Just confirming my order:

Handle timber OK. Shape of handle could be either the H&S or the Stanley/Lie Neilson shape, both work for me

Long set of 8 paring chisel blades

Still have the Post Office Box - so I don't have to fish them out of the garden.

    Helmut,
My order is correct. Happy to accept that the turning of the handles will probably cost more than the budgeted amount.

    Helmut,

The progress of this enterprise is amazing to watch, and the results beautiful to say the least. A big thanks to all concerned.

There are a few of us waiting for replacements for the damaged paring chisels in the first batch - I note that we are not on the list. Are these included? I am missing one long paring chisel only - I think it was 12mm, no handle needed as they were all supplied with th e last batch.

    BR,

    Fraser

We need to discuss handle shapes and timber selection. I PM'ed those blokes who ordered firmer chisels, asking for their comments, this is what we have so far:

    Kapex

This is the design we originally proposed and what Harry R refers too.

Regarding the paring chisel we could just dome the end so it fits comfortable into the palm of the hand?

    Timber Selection

If you are part of the Paring of Firmer Chisel Order and you have asked for handles below is what I have you down for. Now The Native Olive and The Qld Maple I have and I have spares of the QLD Maple. I still need to buy the W.A. She Oak from dusteater, who is selling me a set of 8 blanks for $15 plus postage. If you are down for W.A. SheOak and want to swap to QLD Maple please post as it will save me from buy extras. At the moment we need 96 handles for the firmer chisels AND 84 paring chisel handles.

    Calling All Turners

Last time we had handles turned the bloke was a commercial turner and while his work was consistent and accurate his care and attention was lacking. With most of the handles needing lots of post sanding. I am considering asking if someone on forum would interested in doing the job. Someone who understand what woodworkers demand. A commercial mob would charge us $4 per
handle, for 171 handles that comes to $684. That is what we budgeted for at the moment. IF you know anyone who be interested in taking on this job for the specified sum of money, PM me with details.

Please contribute you comments as we will be starting the manufacturing of the handles asap. So this will be you last chance to contribute.

Some blanks are 42 x 42 x 200, Some others are 40 x 40 x 200, some other supplied from another source are 45 x 45 x 200, most should be square, however they have been sitting in storage for over year now.

Those seven individual chisels are not on the handle list because you do not need handles, however the missing 12 mm chisels are in a special list, that are being seen to.

Just wish to confirm that my order is correct.

I would require ferrules and little longer would be fine. Do not like the LN style of chisel handles.

    Hi All

and Tea Lady will be undertaking the turning of the handles together for us. and I discussed some of the finer details over the phone. is asking $6 per chisel. I will need to calculate out a few things however it seems that the proposed $5 per chisel shortfall should cover everything. Considering all that we have to pay is cost of turning and postage, we should be okay.

    UPDATE:

I have sent a PM to dusteater ordering 124 W.A. Sheoak blanks at 45 x 45 x 225 mm for the firmer chisels.

    Hi,
My very solid and shiney plane blade arrived. Shure looks the part. All I have to do now is make a plane to put it in.
    My thanks to all involved.

dusteater is busy with xmas stuff, but he said he will get to organising the Sheoak asap. The last person to pay will be doing so shortly. I will then use that money to pay for the sheoak and to pay for half of the cost of turning for the handles upfront. At which point we will start to collect the $5 shortfall for the paring and firmer chisels and we get to wrapping up the batch order.

    Default Firmer Chisel Update

    Hi Peoples,
Just a quick update on the firmer chisels, All but the 9 and 6mm (need a special adaptor plate that is in the process of being made to finsh the 6 and 9mm) have been dimensioned to better than 0.05mm and the taper has been ground on a few sets. It takes about a day to grind the taper and bevels for one set. So if I can keep up this pace I might be able to get them out to you before Christmas depending on the adaptor plate.

Anyway here are some pics, if you look closely you can see the taper on chisels that are stacked on top of each other.
