Thread: Plane ID Please

Richie, that rear handle looks to me like a home-brew. I seem to remember someone saying that the parts for infills were imported early last century, & users added their own wood. I wonder if you have one of these? I'm sure someone like Lightwood, will sooncome along & put you right.......

It looks to me like a quite well made, user-made plane.
There is no certainty that it wasn't made in a small, unrecorded workshop as a commercial enterprise. Sold a few a year, but never marked them.
That lever cap and screw has been seen before, and is possible it was sold separately from the body, with the body or in completed planes from an unknown maker who did not mark the tools.
I have pictures of some planes and the owners prefer privacy, so I will send a PM with a little more info.

as a guy who recently ventured into the infill making, its a great looking plane. I've done a lot of research, and there is(and was) a lot of folks putting these together and doing it very well.

Looks like this might be part of that family heritage ... but we'd have to ask Mr Robson for all the details ...

Perhaps, Paul, though the rear handle on yours has more of a 'factory' look about it. The woodwork is also a Northern Hemisphere wood (Beech), which doesn't preclude the stuffing from being made here, but does suggest yours may have come here as a going concern....

This is pure opinion, based on next to no knowledge of the subject, so discount accordingly!
