Carter version of a Stanley 10...Anybody know what their worth ?
One of these is up for tender at my local tender centre. Uno, those planes whose blades meet up to their sides,,,like rebate planes.
Don't know much about Carters, but, I've noticed stanley 10's are worth a bit. Is the same true for the Carter version ?
Thanks

Don't know about the particular model you are speaking about, but I got a Carter No7 from the bloke across the road for $20.00 and once I flattened the sole and tuned it up it works a treat.

I reckon about 1/2 the Record version of the stanley 10 price (off the hans brunner site) would probably be too much.
I think it is the collectors that push the Stanley price up, most other 'mass production' planes are not worth too much. Can you do a search on ePay for ended items?
Record 10 in "near new" (it is, I've seen it) condition http://www.hansbrunnertools.gil.com....Planes%202.htm

Thanks Clinton,
That record looks like it all right.
I don't know how to search ended items.
Next week, I'll just put a low bid on it and see what happens.

I can't help with the ePay "ended items search", can't use ePay where I am at the moment  , and I'd have to take a look to figure it out. Others seem to use it, so it must be available in the advanced search options.
Have you thought about using a No7's blade, grind it down and grind down a No. 4's body?
I guess you are more into picking the Carter up so you have a rebate plane, more than anything? They (the rebate plane) seem to be pretty limited in use, and your combo plane's would be heaps better?

Stupid question coming :
Whats E-pay ?.....I know what E-bay is ...at first I thought e-pay was just a typo for e-bay, but then you just wrote it again ...??? Is it like another kind of e-bay ? I just now made a google search and the impression I got was it was a just a payment system....bit confused on that.
oh, I don't really want another rebate plane. I've got a couple of the normal 78 things. I was just curious really. Thought, uno, maybe I could get a unusual plane cheap, thats maybe really worth quite a bit..... but truthfully not really that interested in it.
Never tried cutting down a no.7 blade and #4 to make one.....know anybody who has ? ..... have made a couple of failed experiments on #4's in the past, that I'd prefer to forget
