Plane setting mallet
Well, it ended up a little over size but that was what I had in mind when I started. The only unusual thing, that others might want to try is that the brass face is cut from a little solid brass draw pull which gave a nice 8mm thick face and a good 17mm stem to epoxy into the head.
115mm x 40mm Ironwood head with a 250mm euro Beech handle.
Cheers

Plane setting mallet
Thanks, Rob. I actually started mine after seeing yours and it took until Yesterday for the brass to happen.
I was at Bunnies for something else and just happened to be wondering where I might get a small chunk of brass for the mallet as I walked down the aisle with the hinges and handles - problem solved....I'll just make the other bits smaller.

I made another new plane setting hammer as a thankyou to Bushmiller for milling some tulip wood and spotty for me. The handle is spotty and the head is tulip wood with a brass face. I dried it in the microwave which is a good way to make a huge amount of smoke if you get impatient and crank the heat up . DAMHIK

This plane setting hammer in tulip wood really is the dearest little mallet. The camera has made the head and the brass a similar colour but they are not and the combination is really pleasing.
