My Plane Stop has Superpowers
Hi All
Ever since starting to use this plan stop it been a mystery why the stop could lift so high out of the bench. The guess was the intent was for very deep timber/jointing tall narrow timber.
The other day though the timber trim bit from the scrap pile and had started planing had a taper, which had to change. was in the process of deciding the squaring up options while looking at the part and the planer stop. Then in occurred to me , that I could lift the stop up to thinnest section then move to the thicker section, to see the degree of taper.
Well that made the taper obvious. I roughly estimated how many strokes it would take to square up the section and the suitable start locations, knocked the panel stops back down - planed off that, checked again and planed a tad more. It didn't take long and was fun to do.
Well while it's not 100% certain this is how the stop was used, there is good chance it was- and it always nice to divine the purpose of an old tool, particularly when the technique is new to me..

Never thought of checking against the stop like that but it makes sense. May try it sometime.

Morning everyone.
Used my depth clicking plane stop again yesterday. This time to check a taper was square across the end. It proving handy little trick, as I and the wood don't move anywhere..
