Planes on the level

Hi All

On the longer planes I glue on bubble levels.

Need go little bit slow for the bubble keep up when jointing. The bubble's are zero'd to my bench- which should be zero'd to ground.
When watching the boards are as square as my square is

I also made both sides of boards parallel when I planed them on top of my bench. I suppose it would be possibe to do tis in a vase but one would need to check the underside is level to the plane on the top.

am I correct that if you use this to check an edge, it'll be light-tight? or close?

Hi David

The bubble is something to watch during planing. Still possible to have a daft moment and have for example the blade out of square.

For checking typically I invert the timber place it on my bench. With square I place it so it just kiss's the timber, for testing the board is normal to the bench. I generally check for any light gaps as well.
I also keep a "reference" board just above and use that as well - depending but perfer the bench check as it better an picking up slight out of square moments.
