polishing stones
Hi guys, i'm not a fellow wood worker but instead i'm involved in competition wood chopping ( like at your local show). What i'm hoping you guys might be able to help me with is being able to aquire some very smooth polishing stones for using on my axes, i already use a diamond stone to start with and then contunie with some hard Arkansas stones but there not giving me the polish i need to finish it.

I suggest you use green blade honing compound, available from Carbatec. Use it on a leather strop, or a felt buffing wheel chucked in a drill. It should give you the mirror finish you seek. It is a bit pricey, at $19.50. but should last you for years.

The other way would be to gradually work your way through the wet and dry paper grades until you get to 2000 this is an almost polished finish which you can improve further with a buffing wheel and compound.

A good Arkansas, properly used, will put a finish on a tool to rival any other.Boring signature time again!
