I've tried one of them and it's total cr*p.

I was taught a great trick for doing 0.5mm edging; get a wide chisel and use it to slice the first 50mm or so of the overhang away, then hold it flat against the face of the board and slide it along at an angle so that the edge of the chisel pushes the overhanging tape into the sharp edge of the board and shears it away.

An alternative is a fine file.

If you need to do thicker than 0.5mm a sharp block plane will work fine.

If you want it for veneer do a search "veneer trimmer" I posted plans for a simple but reliable home made tool, sorry I could not work out how to link to it

    Default close shave

thanks chaps great advice. China found your construct will give it a go as it won't take long to knock up. A danish mate says they use a cabinet scraper drawn along the veneer - with a little flex it does a clean cut no sanding require - I fancy your hi tech solution less chance of scoring the board laminate .

    thanks
