    Hope they are all still sound, dusteater. The She-oaks over this way will turn themselves into matchsticks if left to dry in the round. This is what happens to green wood in about two days in the sun - you can see why I liked it as firewood when I was teenager....

    In the past I have cut (up in the forests here)what I assumed to be dead Sheoaks lying on the ground only to find them still retaining some moisture in towards the heartwood. Much to my disappointment some of the cut timber would check by the time I got it home(Some 30ks) and this was always during the cooler months of the year.
    Sheoak is well known for checking quickly.
    I soon found that I could slow the checking by taking the log-end sealer I used for woodturning so that I could gain from my efforts.

    Its a bonus to come across some nice timber like Ian has and to put it to good lasting practical purpose is even better moreover if its for your practical purposes.
