Default Psst ... Want a Shoot Board Plane?

Well it has been a while since this was announced but here it is a last for those who desire one.
Lie Nielsen's version of the Stanley 51

    More plagarism! ()

Do they have a left handed one?

I think we kak-handers make up about 15% of the population so I'm more than happy to pay 15% of the price for one.

Do we know if the accompanying board will be made too?

At the risk of hijacking this thread what else can we ask Lie-Nielsen to make? What about the Stanley 42X saw set? You see it mentioned an awful lot in discussions on saw sharpening and they do seem to command rather high prices on ebay and elsewhere for old ones. I wonder if they've thought of such a thing to go with their range of saws yet.

    Cheers,
    Virg.

Not sure if there is one for south-paws but here is the quote from their website:
Our version of this tool utilizes our standard 2 3/8" Bench Plane Blade and Frog, and is heavier than the original. It is 15" long, 3 9/16" wide, with a shoulder height of 2 1/8", and is just over 9 pounds. Will fit the original Stanley 52 Chute Board. We plan to offer a companion Shooting Board in the future.

    Cheers

I like the basic design of the plane body, but that handle looks somewhat 'user hostile'. Does the handle swivel so that you can get your mitts into it??

I'd prefer a similar design of plane, but with a 'hot dog' style handle on the top edge stuck out at 45 degrees to give leverage in both required directions (sideways/down).

It looks more awkward than it is.
Here is the original and the hand fits fine: (pic courtesy of Hans Brunner)
