Quick release on vise slipping
Hi folks ,
We have two woodworkers bench vises at the guild that have quick release slippages .
Both of them clack clack and slip , not just under load but also when they are empty .
. One is a medium range Record , the other about the same size , can't think of the make .
Does anyone have any info on fixing the problem ?
I've had a good look on the net and not found any vise maintenance pages
cheers ,
Jock

A common occurence. They just need to be dismantled, cleaned and oiled.
.
I know you believe you understand what you think I wrote, but I'm not sure you realize that what you just read is not what I meant.
Regards, Woodwould.

Cheers WW ,
I hoped that that was the case .
I have come across some mention of a quick-release nut on a buttress thread.
It sounds tricky ,

No, they're not tricky at all, less complicated than your average Bailey plane......you'll be fine.
There is a chance that the half-nut on the release is worn but you'll know more when you get them dismantled.
A couple of hours of kerosene and swearing, some light oil and a smidge of grease and you'll be good to go.We don't know how lucky we are......
