Ensure ...

1. The blade is square with the sole.

2. The fence is square with the blade.

3. Use a deep fence to aid vertical. Here is mine ...



4. Place the board against the edge of the bench (assuming that your bench side is square to the top).

5. Final tweaking may be done with a shoulder plane.

Thanks Derek your input is always fantastic, everything has been checked off except for the fence which I will add this weekend. I was thinking about it on that day but left that thought when I checked the squareness of the fence. I also did ride the fence on the edge of the bench as it seemed logical at the time, sought of like having a fence attached without the fence. I did make a small jig cut it at angle of 35° which is the angle of the blade for easy installation.

Sorry about the delay folks I finally got around to making a fence for it I used western red ceder and I just need to oil and wax it but the results are fantastic she finally cuts square so thanks Derek once more you've been very helpful to me in this forum and same goes with the rest of you thanks for all your inputs.

I would like to mention in case some of you who haven't already made a fence for your moving fillister plane when you attach it to the plane check for square as mine was out quite a bit, you may have trued it prior but once screwed things may go out of wack. If it's out of square plane the offending piece and then level out the rest. Also have your fence ride along the side of your bench if you don't you will tip it.

Oh I forgot to make mention of the little jig I made to align the blade in seconds. I got a bit of ply 1/4" and cut the angle to 35° now I know the angle of the blade is 22° but measuring the angle on the sole it came to 35° However I also measured the angle of the blade using the skew angle registration jig and it came to 22° so I honed it to that angle and btw that is as accurate as you set it or your eyes permit you. I was off for what seemed to a few thousandth of a mil but anyhow, after your blade is back in your plane flush place two sheets of paper in between the blade so on both sides of the plane make sure your plane is resting on it's side and take off the depth stop. These sheets of paper will give you that 1000th of an inch protrusion. Push the blade downwards till it touches the bench now align your shop made jig till the blades edge is aligned with the angle on your jig and then lock it down. The width of the jig isn't too important as as it's not wider than the sole of your plane the jig itself rests on the fence, sole and the bench this way you ensure it's accurately set.
