Is this a rare 1" chisel ?
I've got another one for sale. Thought I should check with the experts (or is this really just a pretex for another shameless advertisement ). Hate to sell something off too cheap.
I'm going to sell this along with a stanley 46 skate on e-bay.
Busted my guts before work today, flatterning its back though. It was dishing slightly, as they do, but in the hardest way possible. A bow instead of a cup. Bows, as you know are hard to flattern out just by lapping.....
But I got there. Its all flat, square, shinny and shhharp now. Its nice to send them off sharp.
Anycase, is.......Charles Taylor....a common brand ?...Also says, Shieffield tools. Warrented Cast Steel England On the back there is some kind of stamped insignia that I can't make out.....maybe something to do with a patent.
Thanks. Its a strong looking chisel in good nick, but again, like that 2" Marples I just sold, its just too long for me really. I'm clumbsy with them.

Ta Sheddy. Similar chisel. And explains the insignia on the back. Just a common chisel by the look of it. I'll stick it up on ebay now.
Thanks.

Sheddy, your chisels in the mail. There's a tote in there as well. Its a bit cracked though. Fine, but you'd probably want better. And an old blade. Backbeveled it, so it looks weird. Had a few rust pits at edge. Thats the only way to remove them, but blade should still work. If no good though, just chuck it, eh.

Hi Jake,
That looks like a paring chisel. I have a couple of Robert Sorby's examples. Although long (they're supposed to be!), they are pretty handy.
A Sorby 1" paring chisel retails at just under US$50 - they look like these:
I must congratulate you on your ethics regarding preparing and sharpening tools before selling them; must would just give them a wipe at best.

Thanks for the pictures on the Sorby's. I could see how they must be handy. I'll get a couple of longer paring chisels one day. I'd find them much more manueveable. Unlike some I find the old thick chisels, like this one I'm trying to sell unweildy.
I saw a couple of long old chisels at the markets about a year ago that I didn't have the cash for at the time. Still kicking myself over that. They'll crop again sometime no doubt.
Still owe you, Steve....for those computer parts.
