Smile Recent Iso Hand Tool projects

So ever since my wood club shut because of Covid, I have not been able to use power tools and machinery. I got some hand tools and elbow grease and still been making stuff. I want to thank everyone in this forum and their input into various hand tool related topics. I have learnt a lot since joining the forum. I am very new to hand tools and I am slowly slowly working my way around it. Has been very fun so far!
Below are some things I have made

Kitchen shelves for my mum (actually don't know what they're called)
    90cm x 90cm x 27cm made to the boss' requirements
A combination of Ironbark and spotted gum. They were dimensioned from rough sawn. The the side rails are mortised in. I have some vic ash floor boards that I will use as shelves so mum can put fruits and veggies on. This took a long time to make.
Still a bit more to do. Some light sanding to get rid of some tear out. I have been experimenting with Citrus turps + tung oil as a finish. I have been checking other blog posts on it.

    Handle shaping
Got a spare Hnt try plane but it did not have a handle so did some shaping and carving for it to fit in. My initial plan was to copy the existing handle I have. However, they're not the same. My one is only tapered in 1 dimension (width), but the other one is tapered in both height and width. Very fun shaping that to make it all fit. Fun fun. Fun fact: the mouth of the plane is a few degrees from square which means I will call it a skew try plane (for fun).

    Saw bench for ripping timber.
I was ripping a board the other day and cut into my workbench accidentally. I had it clamped on my table top and was sawing. It was not even a comfortable position to do it in. So i decided to make a rip bench. All these materials are from the bunnings offcuts bin. My local bunnings does not charge for offcuts and they always have a lot. Each time I go, I can fill my car up with packing timber. That is what i used to make this bench. The side stretchers are pine decking I think.
And then when it was all built, I did a test cut on some ironbark and it was good. I might add another top on the bench to make the gap between narrower.

These projects have been fun to make. I've been learning to cut straight and to the line. Would like to thank Derek Cohen for his recommendation of the Veritas PMV11 mortise chisel (over the LN ones). That has been my saving grace. I was using my vintage titan mortise chisel at 35deg bevel and it kept chipping after a few bangs in ironbark.

With the second wave and possibly 4th wave restrictions. There will be more fun times in the shed.

And again thank you guys for all your input into these forums and all your help!!!

    Cheers,

    Bernard

Good on yer Bernard. Reading & listening is a good start, but getting stuck in & making stuff raises the learning curve most of all. And the good thing about this hobby/obsession is that the more you learn, & the better your projects get, the more you realise there's still plenty to know & new things to try. It can keep you happy & busy for a lifetime, if you wish. At least a goodly part of a lifetime - 60 years & counting, in my case....

    Cheers,
    IW

Looks like a nice little collection of handtools you're getting together there Bernard and you are putting them to good use as well as learning along the way. I did notice a nice looking chisel in one of the photos. Is that the Veritas?
