Reconditioning Chisels
I have quite a number of Titan, Stanley and Berg Chisels which are in desperate need of some tender lovin'. Once reconditioned I intend selling them. I'm in the throes of researching how to tart them up etc.
Any websites anyone can point me to?
What's the most ideal timber to use for handles?
What's the best way to get rid of the gunk on them whilst preserving the maker's mark?
Thanks in advance.-Scott

Slightly off topic I am looking for a 11mm and a 22 mm tanged berg which i would purchase sans handle should you have them.
Also on the lookout for Berg sockets in 3, 4.5, 6 and 8mm if you are willing to part with them also.
Google Bob Smalser he has some articles on the subject of chisel rehab
Rssr has a post on back flattening on the forum using horse power rather than hand power
DC has some beautiful berg restored on his blog
The list goes on...
Incidnetly how will you go with this task with your hand or are you nearly mended from a black / brown muck entering the wound point of view?

There will be plenty on this forum about it, let alone the web ... here's the venerable SG ... follow the link to his blog ...

I'll go through what I've got. Would you be surprised if I said I picked up 8 chisels (2 Berg, 1 Stanley and 5 Titans) on the weekend for $10?
Thank you for all your info, I'll give Ern a tingle.
The hand is 8 weeks down the track and has healed perfectly, no chance of getting infected. I jumped on the lathe for the first time on the weekend and things went okay. The main concern is snapping the joined tendon. If that happens then things get a little tricky. Still got no feeling in 2 fingers
Here's the hand at 1 day:
And at 8 weeks:

Glad to see & hear that you are healing, nerves can take a long time to heal/regrow.
They sometimes never regrow, and the numbness my be forever, unfortunately.
