    Default Record 778 on Ebay

These don't come up real often; practically unused and from the late 70's/early 80's

Record No.778 Rebate & Fillister Plane | eBay

I'm not affiliated with the seller in any way, just that over the last couple of months there have been a few enquiries and posts about rebate planes; this is the one that outperforms the Stanley 78. Probably only the Veritas is better but for a substantial bigger outlay.
Nothing succeeds like a budgie without a beak.

I don't think so. I would expect a selling price around $120-150 for a plane in good condition with all blades.

That makes it a pricey start point. Not meaning to be argumentative.

There are three proven online selling strategies.

    1. Priced at the expected sale price
    2. Start at 1/3 of the perceived value and the market will decide the real price
    3. Start at zero and hope for a feeding frenzy to take charge.

For this one I would have chosen 2.

I guess the seller is afraid that his value is not met.

What happened to being able to set a reserve price on items? That seems to have been done away with.
