Default Remind you of someone we know?

    I couldn't resist posting this.
here are some photos of an American made Millers Falls smoothing plane that bears a striking resemblance to an Australian made icon.
In my humble opinion, the Australian product is superior and yet maybe not as much appreciated as its American cousin.
Can anyone guess to what I am referring?
This one was sold on Ebay, - make sure you are sitting down before you click on the link.

If you have a Turner, then treasure it.
Turners are truly beautiful handplanes, and one in good condition is jewel beyond price IMHO.
I could be a tad biased I suppose, but once you have handled and used one you won't want to lose it.
    Turners rule in Tele Point!

Fugly planes those Millers Falls, funny how they resemble a Turner which is quite a handsome plane. Cant comment on the quality, the only Millers I own are a couple of block planes and they very fine users.

I think it might be the lever cap which turns me off, same blocky shape as the falcons.
Still.. I'll pay the buck rogers Millers.. they at least are something different.

    Great price tag tho.

    I'm a new boy here...
Interesting time line mix-up...Turner wouldn't be the cousin...more like the "grandchild" of the MF #209 with the Permaloid handles. The 209 was made from 1937 - 48. The Turner planes were made with Red Cellulose Acetate handles starting about 1963 after the Falcon / Pope patterns were taken over by Turner, a HANDLE making company. They had a need to use existing unused capacity in their plant, and didn't have any woodworking capacity, so plastic handles were used, no other reason. Was chatting to Graeme Plaw and his wife here earlier today...both were there at the time, AND he was laughing as he told me he was the man responsible for the black plastic handles on Stanley planes worlwide...!!! He was saying that in the trade at the time, Stanley Sheffield planes with the wooden handles were promoted heavily against the BAD plastic handles of the Turner, BUT when Stanley took them over they went to black plastic pretty quick because based on feedback, they were a better option than wood, particularly in schools, which was a large part of the market. Graeme actually took the wooden plane patterns to the casting firm when they arrived in Melbourne from SA.
BTW, sold a nice, used once, boxed (tatty) Turner #4 1/2 for about $45.00 at our HTPAA tool sale last weekend. Needed some extra space for the much nicer MF planes )))) Kept my nice shinny #7 though, don't see them in the box very often!
