I don't have any problem discussing it - we're nearly adults
Plus I started the thread - so it's not gunna bother people who just don't care
First - regarding copyright - it refers to the ownership of the picture - and I'm no expert but "fair use" is allowed, eg a chapter in a book, an article from a magazine.
Second re linking to ebay - there is a vast and wide sea of information out there and the net contains zillions of things that we are never going to see in real life, so I for one like to see a video someone found or an interesting, rare and/or beautiful item. (*)
I'm happy to cop it on the chin if someone ends up saying that's not on with my photo/item/whatever.
Lastly re the impulse refererence and the seller. The guys a saw nutter! Of course he's going to appeal to me
There's plenty of nutters around here, and we should all join arms and support each other. Maybe form a Union.
This guys listings and Daryl Weir and some others are a spectator sport. They are fun to watch and be shocked about
And - I hadn't thought about it - duh - but I have bid in those auctions - might still be.
If I had $600 or so bucks burning a hole in my pocket I would have absolutely gone both of them.
Personally I can't see someone jumping into an auction at those prices who wasn't also in the market for a Wenzloff or Adria etc - and considered it moderately deeply.
Not if they're married at any rate ... and wanna stay that way ...
I know some of the US boards have the no-highlighting rule ... but we don't here ... and the metal-working guys have a thread to actively highlight opportunities, so horses for courses. I might not broadcast that there was a D100 on monday that was described as a D8 ... but if someone else put it up - c'est la vie.
Nighty-night.
Paul
(*) Speaking of which - Peter Follansbee has an amazing camera for a 17th century guy ...
and he describes both the bottom two as 'fore planes' ... I think the little one is a scrub.

i do know something about copyright and taking all three picture (of those two saws) from the ebay listing (which you had to go into the source code to do by the way, it wasnt just right click, save, not that that makes it ok) doesn't come under fair use, quite simply its not your property, having to go into the source code to steel them might have been a clue that you arnt welcome to them, dont you think? to use on a forum,
linking to someones video they are happy and encourage people to link to is quite different to stealing someones pictures and then posting said pictures as part of your own article, that then (that content) becomes owned by a forum which takes money for sponsorship..there's more to it than you simply wanting to see and share anything your eye lands on, just because you can work around the protocols doent mean you are invited to do so
on one hand you cant see anyone impulse buying, then on the other if you had some money in your pocket you would 'go' both of them, i dont know about you but i detect a hint of overlap of those two statements. you also mention you might still bid into them, but put an embarrassing icon up, one might interpret that to mean you see (or have a hint of) the error (or paradox) of linking to the auction if you was to bid on it, if you widen the same premise to include others (that might be wanting to bid) then i think you understand what i was getting at. there is another way to get those saws and the thrill of your favourite sellers, you could buy the saws from someone else at 10%-30% of their hammer price (cheaper if your lucky) and then send it to them, pay several hundred dollars for them to sharpen them and ,hey, presto . as fun as it might be to see their auctions, surely you can tell he is running a online business, i dont see why they need a disciple to regularly advertise for them as well, ebay has its own marketing department and they (the saw guys) seem to promote themselves very well on their own, and good for them (truly), but even they dont link to their own (or others) ebay auctions on forums
some people need rules, others get by on etiquette,
smaller communities like the metal work forum may find it works for them for their particular items which can consist of very heavy machinery that can only be sold local, other parts are in low demand, other parts are vital for a few people that have expensive machinery sitting there un-operational until they find a part, etc, so amongst a smaller community they may view it as assistance, not to benefit someones collection and not to add to frenzy of supporting someones online business, if they did then they possibly erred, or put up with it because the overall help in the other aspects mentioned offsets the odd misguided auction posted..i'm not sure how it compares or should justify listing your favourite ebay sellers listing (regularly) because you may think it a spectator sport, thats just advertising or spamming..why not let people find their own way to ebay, as i said imo it would get very nauseating if everyone posted ebay listings..sharing by PM might be more beneficial e.g if i found a saw on auction that was incorrectly labelled or something interesting i could PM you with the listing, it wouldn't be doing you any favours to list it in the forum for everyone around the globe (even non-members of the forum) to see it...

It is in Firefox Internet Explorer too I would think.

I bid on the first #16, and I bid on the second both before and after I posted about it. I didn't (and don't) consider my mention of it would effect things - would usually drive people away.
The prices are consistently high, and I expect that if someone bids there they have done their homework and know what to expect.
The embarrassment face was because 45% of me wants to slap the other 55% for considering spending that much on a saw ... but I have been looking for a good #16 that I can study and appreciate - because of all that I have read, and also from what you have said about them - and I've been a good boy, and there's a lot of work coming up, so ... but I suspect the first one could have gone just like the second if I had pushed any harder. (I'm kinda pretty well decked as far as ripsaws go )
I don't think the reference has been "regular" ... I could search back, but I think the count is now up to four ... and I definitely think it is worth mentioning that a saw sold for $1100. Maybe that's just me
I also hope it helps people realise that there may bea lot ofsome value in those $5 for 5 saws at the swap-meets if they look carefully and learn what to look for ... might help keep good saws off the rubbish heap.
