Another Router Fix
So as not to hijack the other router thread.
I have found quite few 'odd threads' when repairing or mofifying tools so when I decided to add a fine adjuster to the blade on a Stanley 271 router I was not surprised to find that the blade lock screw was 3/16" x 28 tpi, unknown in Imperial standard threads (the nearest is 7/32" x 28 BSF).
Anway I screw cut the thread for the lock screw, threaded the adjuster 1/4" by 40 and off-set the pin that fits into the router body to bring the adjusting screw as close to the blade shank as possible.
It works well but a further improvement would be to fit a spring to hold the blade up against the adjuster or perhaps a small collar on the blade shank that fits in an annular slot in the knurled adjuster nut, but that is for another day.

I'm impressed by your thread-cutting skills, OB. Not sure I can see 40tpi, let alone make a reasonable fist of cutting it over a couple of inches.
To get full function out of your adjuster, you certainly need some way to keep the thumb screw & blade engaged. I can't think of a convenient way to fit a spring, and if you put a collar on the blade shank, how will you change blades? I reckon the easiest solution would be to but a notch in the top of the blade & fit a collar on the thumbscrew, similar to the way the big brother 71 operates. I would expect the shank of the blade to be soft enough to cut/file near the top, but if it isn't, there goes that idea...

Ian - thanks for your input, I did manage to assess the fineness of the adjustment by just keeping upwards pressure on the blade.
I think the collar on the blade shank is the way to go, held in place with a couple of 6BA grub screws.
I don't use it very often so will only need to remove the blade for sharpening once in a while.
I have a 71 and a small one I made some time ago.
(BTW the 271 was one of my best car boot buys, brand new in box £3)
