Sandvik/Bahco card scrapers - Where to buy?
I've tried several local hardware chains but can't find a retail card scraper anywhere. I know Carbatec carry the Veritas scrapers but I was wondering who carries the Sandvik range these days.

Probably no one these days, I purchased mine a long time go at the 2nd last real hardware in Sydney - the late lamented Complete at Eastwood. The latest iteration of Australian operations (Bahco is part of Snap-on) is:Sna E (Australia) Pty Limited
3 Cooper St
Smithfield, NSW 2164
Telephone: (02) 8787 5700

They do not even have a website! They do still make them http://extranet.snaeurope.com/prodbl...uctBlockID=682

Hi,
I bought mine at Magnet mart Gungahlen before the take over but the other day I noticed they still had some, I don't know if they were just left over or if Home Hardware are in the habit of stocking them, if the latter you have more hope than visiting Canberra.
Best of luck with your search.Hugh

No luck with the Home Hardware chain here, the local ones are just 1 man corner stores. Must have been old stock at the Canberra store.
Sounds like it's time to look for an old handsaw blade to butcher.

Probably as good a way to go as any, Fuzz. I have half a drawer-full of scrapers, Sandvik, LV, No-Name, & many made from new & old saw plate. They range from .4mm to almost 1mm, depending where they came from, but they are all about the same hardness & all do an adequate job. The Sandvik certainly doesn't stand out as demonstrably superior. Sometimes I like a thinner scraper, & for some jobs a thick one is better, so it's nice to have a choice.
If you can get your hands on a couple of old hard-point saws that have finished their sawing life, you'll have enough scrapers to last several lifetimes. Most HP saws are very roughly ground, so you might need to spend a bit of time polishing the sides for really fine work. For coarser work it's not so important.
Cheers,IW

Hi Steve, Thanks that's very kind of you. I'm after just a single straight one for the moment unless you have curved ones as well. I tried cutting a curved one from a .3mm filling blade but it was a bit light weight, I'm wanting to try a better thickness one for scraping some panels.
I'm not very far from your old lockup if you are heading this direction.
Cheers, Franklin
