Stole 15 mins this afternoon to test out the saw and mallet. The saw is beautiful - I had no problem starting it in 12mm Tas oak, but sawing is one thing I know how to do. I can see how it would bind, and I will put a smear of wax on it, but the cuts were fine and straight. The mallet is, well, heavy and lumpy - perfect, I even think the acrylic takes some of the pain out of it.

I'll post pictures when I have a dovetail I can admit to creating...
    Cheers, Richard

OK so some of you will remember back in early November, when I placed a WTB in the Market place section of the forum:

Well Santa found one for me and it was under the tree this morning:

My wife got me a Dial indicator set with magnetic base from Hare and Forbes. I choose it and ordered it
My sister got me Pfeil Double bevel marking knife from Carbatec I gave her a few ideas seeing she wasn't keen on getting vouchers

Then my grandfather was cleaning out his shed the other day and thought of me when he found an old Stanley 71 with hardwood handles complete with everything including depth stop and the 3 blades that he bought for 1 job 30 or so years ago. Its mint with only a couple of rust spots.

so all in all excellent xmas

No what do it do keep this and sell the less complete or older 71 I have or keep the blades and parts I need and sell this one (or keep both) the last 2 photos show the older 71 I had previously and I notice it does not have the fence attachment stuff on the base.

    Merry christmas

Great Christmas presents Andrew especially the 71, it looks almost new and the best part, it came from family, I would not be able to part with that one.

Personally I would hang on to your old one too as you never know when you may need parts but then I am a bit of a bower bird and as the LOML says, I find it difficult to part with anything.
I trust you and yours had a very pleasant day.
