Completely out of the blue this was but permission to spend a large amount of dosh on anything at Carba-Tec. My decision boiled down to a lathe or table saw. I ended up getting this:
Carba-Tec 10" HD Left Tilt Saw Bench (CTH-110L) : CARBA-TEC

Just before Xmas I received a small kanna, from a Japanese printmaker who was recently over here and stayed at my place for a few days. The body seems to be made from oak, and the wedge is steel. After a brief hone I have it singing very sweetly, with the pull stroke being better... or is it my imagination?
CheersAndy Mac

Galootaclaus
I have been participating in the old toll forum for a number of years and this year decided that there were other Australians obviously participating in "galootaclaus" I would too
Sent my parcel off to California and on Christmas Eve the parcel man arrived with a parcel from Connecticut
When we opened up it up with the others on Christmas morning I found 4 wooden planes - my camera is at another party which i have successfukly avoided but pics will follow and a second edition (1875) of The Art and Science of Carpentry Made Easy by William E Bell - Philadelphia 1888
He was an architect and designed this book for a carpenter to build anything from a barn to a church steeple or wooden truss bridge - scale drawings - bills of parts the lot
and on my mothers side I am a Bell and William is a recurring name on the Bell side every Generation - 2 nephews, 3 cousins, 2 uncles, a granduncle and a greatuncle - just seemed appropriate for Christmas

hey Neil, good on you for joining in. I've been in it for quite a few years now. I sent my galootaclaus package off to New York state, USA, but it won't have arrived there yet. Mine hasn't arrived here yet either. So, all I can report is some clothes and stuff. No old tools content yet for my Christmas!

Santa gave me a Triton TRA001 router, so far everything about this router is going to make life so much better for table mounting.

I have an order of books from Amazon UK coming........
"Making Wooden Toys" J.T. Stasio; Paperback;
"How to Make Animated Toys" David Wakefield; Paperback;
"Making Heirloom Toys" Jim Makowicki; Paperback;
All the brilliant toy makers on the forum have inspired me,
well, to at least purchase the books.
Should arrive between Christmas & New year
if the post is on time.
Cheers, Crowie

I'm with Woodwould, a Terry's chocolate orange is really all you need.
I bought charity presents for the family too, although the kids got a ridiculous amount of presents of course. Unfortunately I've not yet trained my other half, so I bought my own presents - a Veritas low angle jack plane, and a few other bits and pieces.
To be fair, what she did buy was one of these: PRS-350 : Reader
And then she was surprised when what I loaded it up with was all those articles I wanted to take into the workshop but couldn't. Great score.
Edit: I think I'll load all my plans and notes onto it, so that I can refer back to them when I'm working.Cheers, Richard

Nice one sjt. I have the previous model of that and it's a fantastic table saw.
Mrs Claus got me another HNT plane to add to the collection I recently started. This one was a 3/4" shoulder plane. I also got a few things for the home, a short book (The Communist Manifesto) and a "nice" calendar for the workshop.

Carbatec and Bunnings vouchers under the tree for me. I told SWMBO not to spend too much because courtesy of the "Market Place" pages, I have expanded my workshop significantly this year - MC1100 lathe, 14" bandsaw, dust collector, Triton MK3 and various hand tools (broad-axe, drawknives, planes, chainsaw bars, etc)
Without hijacking this thread, I was hoping for a delivery of plane blades, cap irons and spokshave blades as well but I'm unsure if/when they'll ever arrive
cheers
Derek

Oh and I got a new book, which I am obsessed with at the moment, The World's Worst Inventions. Very funny/interesting book.

This is the result of a combination of having a birthday 2 days before Christmas, and leaving a Carba-Tec cattledog out with a heap of pages marked. Needless to say, I am stoked.

TT - you'll love the LV saw !!
A very good score indeed....
I never cease to be amazed by Santa's woodworking prowess; for an old guy that doesn''t take much interest in things for most of the year, he's surprisingly well-versed in woodworking minutiae......
Mind you, I was hoping he'd bring me the crosscut version of the LV dovetail saw to complete my set, but it just didn't happen....
