    Default Scavenger's saw nuts

Well, IanW I ain't, I can't just knock up a top notch saw nut in a trice but I still need to attach my saw handles somehow. So I scavenged some batten screw nuts from a busted old table and popped them into a 'proof of concept' handle. The handle is not a winning shape but it's only silky oak, so it's not really tough enough for a tool handle but it was a piece of cake to shape.

I reckon they don't look too bad.

I also wanted to see if I could do it all with a brace and bit.

Not too bad. I am not sold on the hook at the top but the lower 3/4 looks really good.

No, me neither. I was aiming for something to match my first handle which I really like,

... but it didn't translate. No worries I'll knock up a new one.

PS ... is your style S&J meets Groves ?

You know ... I have only just noticed how thick that lambs tongue is ... the thinned edge is very deceptive ...

Personally, I think Ron could stand to have fewer nibs. They look a bit too spiky to me. Oh well, there's no arguing taste. They are definitely bad ass.

Mine is a such a bitsa you couldn't pick the providence. I can't. Nothing new, nothing specific, but pretty comfortable.

I've got more of a plumber's thumb than a lamb's tongue on this one because the silky oak reall is pretty soft. I might have a go making it appear more slender by making it more oval shaped.

It feels very comfortable, Christos. I haven't sharpened it yet so I can't say how well it works but for simply hanging onto it's good.

... but it's got to be better than what it came with.

Sure, it's easy if you have a pattern

    Sweet handle though.

But then I guess he did just hack his handle from a log, he gets points there. Mind you, I don't know about shaping the handle first. If I did it that way Murphy would bring me down for sure. It's just asking the blade slot or one of the bolt holes to go wonky.
