Seeking Fancy Brass Fastener and Thumbscrews Supplier for Chair Devil
I recently completed a chair devil styled in the fashion of a traditional European low angle spokeshave made out of Cooktown Ironwood. I will be using a 50 mm x 5 mm HNT Gordon spokeshave Blade. I however need some advice on sourcing and selecting some brass inserts and matching thumbscrews.
What I need is to secure the levercap / lid thingamajig that holds the blade in place. See the photo and how darker timber is secured to the body of the chair devil body using brass screw, I would prefer a thumbscrews just for ease of use.
I therefore need advice for a supplier of brass inserts and a brass Thumbscrew. Something like the thumbscrews found on the Veritas / Lie-Nielsen spokeshave.
Does anyone know of a supplier in Melbourne preferably who sells such items.
Something like these by Veritas.

Excellent reply and thread, Derek.
I always appreciate how simple you make these seemingly dauting tasks appear, while using fairly common materials and equipment. Very useful info.

g'day TS
I have bought some of those inserts and thumbscrews from a mob in QLD called "The Do it Yourself shop"....they were pretty easy to deal with and quite helpful. If you look them up and email them Im sure they will email you a copy of their catalogue.
However I think Derek's home made version...appearence wise leave them for dead.
cheers
