    Default To sharpen or not to sharpen?

    Hello I'm just curious if i should put a sharp edge on this or leave it alone. What do you guys think?

    Are you going to put a handle on it and use it for any roofing work? I would assume the hatchet side was to size shakes (don't know if they call them that in Australia), and it doesn't look like it would be of great use for much else.

    If I put an edge on it i do have a few applications it would be useful for

    It would a small beveled edge that would do work. Not overly done gleaming thing that's "made" to look sharp

    I can't help you with advice on the edge, but for my own curiosity, what is it actually used for?

    Enquiring minds etc want to know.

    It's used for roofing is a shingle hammer..someone also thought it was a box hammer

    Hammering - not quite the same design, but hand nailing a roof with a hammer/hatchet.

    If I was to wear my pedantic hat, shakes are the split version while shingles are the band sawn variety ( and also a very unpleasant rash).
