Saw Sharpening Files - an online petition to try and get a result
In another thread we are having severe difficulties in finding decent quality Saw Sharpening Files these days, and it looks like we will need to show one of the manufacturers that there is a really good niche market begging for their attention.
The best way to get a manufacturer to listen to us is to present them with hard data.
With that in mind, I have started on online petition which you can see here. If you want a result then please support the petition, even if you think it might be a silly idea - can't hurt to try.
All it requires from you (as a minimum) is two clicks and typing your name - one here and one on the link page.
Send the link to anyone you know that has an interest in this troublesome subject.

Update
Given that this is such a niche little thing I'm pretty happy with the way the Petition is going. There are 254 supporters so far, and they are from the following countries:
ASIA PACIFIC Australia 34 New Zealand 2 THE AMERICAS United States 199 Canada 8 UK & EUROPE United Kingdom 3 Denmark 1 Germany 1 Switzerland 1 Netherlands 1 SCANDINAVIA Norway 1 Sweden 2 AFRICA South Africa 1
Now that's all good, but the Yanks are killin' us - and they've only known about it for 36 hours! My understanding is that our forum is the largest in the world, so.....click on my signature line any time you like.
There are now threads linking to it on the following forums:
talkFestool
Lumberjocks and here
Woodnet
The Wood Haven
UK Workshop
Much thanks to TobyC and Brit*al (Andy) for promoting it elsewhere. Andy in particular has taken up the cudgel, and is taking no prisoners.
In discussions with "you know who" the other night, he told me that he will be responsive to demand (i.e. signatures).

Hmmm. By a process of elimination, people in Japan must have the perfect files ... No complaints at all.
Also Antartica.

I'm suprised there aren't more signing up.
Getting decent saw files is near impossible, and lots of people have saws. ??
Do they send them out to be sharpened, use the blunt or use disposables?

A couple of stats:
350 sigs so far, and the table shows the ratio of Aussies, compared to the rest:
COUNTRY SIGS POPULATION RATIO Australia 48 23,070,272 1 United States 249 316,149,000 2.6 New Zealand 2 4,469,800 4.6 Sweden 4 9,580,424 5 Norway 2 5,063,709 5.3 Canada 12 35,141,542 6.1 United Kingdom 15 63,181,775 8.8 Germany 4 80,399,300 41.8
Only showing countries with more than one sig. Tha RATIO shows how many times ahead Aussie is to that country on a per capita basis (i.e. Aussie has 2.6 times the take up rate that the USA has). To be expected that Aussie would be leading because this is where the most noise has been made, and for the longest time. Also note that the petition has only been promoted in USA and UK besides here, so to be expected that the others won't have as many.
Satisfactory target is 500 I reckon, given the niche nature of the files.

Only 55 votes needed to reach the minimum target of 500. Please vote if you haven't already done so.

Nearly there....
465 sigs now, a mere 35 to get to the psychological 500.
Australia still has the highest take-up rate, followed by the USA.
COUNTRY SIGS POPULATION RATIO Australia 63 23,070,272 1 United States 324 316,149,000 2.7 New Zealand 4 4,469,800 3.1 Canada 21 35,141,542 4.6 United Kingdom 29 63,181,775 5.9 Sweden 4 9,580,424 6.5 Norway 2 5,063,709 6.9 Denmark 1 5,605,836 15.3 Serbia 1 7,241,295 19.8 Switzerland 1 8,058,100 22 Netherlands 2 16,789,900 22.9 Hungary 1 9,906,000 27.1 Germany 5 80,399,300 43.9 Italy 3 59,685,227 54.3 France 2 65,657,000 89.6 Poland 1 38,533,299 105.2 Spain 1 47,059,533 128.5 South Africa 1 52,981,991 144.7
As far as a comparison with Facebooks "likes" is concerned, I reckon a signature without comment is worth two likes (at least), and a sig with comment is worth three (simply because of the extra effort involved - a "like" is just a click).
