    Default Shipping of Lee Valley & Veritas Orders

    I was wondering which was the best store to place an order, USA or Canada. If someone has had a recent order what country was it shipped from?

    I never worry about which store it comes from. Just place the order on their internet site and it goes to where ever these orders are processed. You will be charged in USD as it is an international order. After placing the order you will be provided with four shipping options and the associated costs. Once you have made your choice the order is shipped. Very prompt and excellent service. Some Australian internet retailers could learn a lot from LV's website and order processing.

    Currently shipping from Lee Valley is going quite quickly - around a week to my local P.O.

    As compared to orders from the USA which have blown out from 7-10 days to 3 weeks, most of which seems to have been spent on the tarmac at the airport as the parcels leave the US and aren't scanned into OzPost for another 2 weeks

    Yep I cannot fault LV. I have placed 2 or 3 orders with them this year & received my goods to my PO Box no longer than 10 days (inc weekend) later. Fantastic service

    Now, how does one (whose too lazy to build his own) order a workbench from Lee Valley ?

    Hi Gary,
    Are you sure you can't get what you want in OZ.

    Still trying to source 30 sets of chisels for the High School for which I work. We are thinking of getting a few sets of Narex chisels to see if they are suitable. As discussed in a previous forum we can get 12mm 19mm and 25mm in a set but it does not include a 6mm mortise chisel. So the 6mm chisel does not match the set. Narex does the full set but we may have to buy them individually.

    Send an email to [email protected] and address it to Marty McClave. Tell him what you are after (they can order in for special orders), ask for a bulk price and an estimate of the shipping costs by various methods (they can also do Sea freight which is significantly cheaper and takes 8-10 weeks). You may need more than one package to stay under the $1000 threshhold when GST and Import Duty apply.

    Unbelievable service. They are absolutely the world benchmark.

    The US orders are shipped from a place called Ogdensburg, New York, right on the banks of the St. Lawrence river on the Canadian border; must be a tax/customs issue of some sort, as all the retail stores are in Canada. I've actually been to the town when I go fishing on the St. Lawrence river. Since LV has better places to ship from to Oz in Canada, asking for shipping from NY would likely delay the shipping a bit. Not to rub it in, but when I place an order, it is filled the same day and I get it in 2 or 3 days, mostly two, as I'm in NJ and not all that far away. But some folks here in the US, say, Arizona, wait up to a week to get their shipments.

    But why not buy from local suppliers like carba tec. The aussie dollar is low now so imports would be expensive.......

    My local supplier is in Auckland, I'm in Wellington, 400 miles away - so I'm buying from a catalogue whether I buy from my local supplier or Lee Valley.

    For a Low Angle Jack (probably one of their most popular models) my local supplier ask $NZ477.40; Lee Valley ask $US239.00 = ~$NZ300. I would guesstimate shipping* from LV to be around $NZ75 surface mail, or $NZ150 cheapest airmail. Shipping from my local supplier would probably be in the region of $35.

    My local supplier $477.40 & ~$35p&p = ~$510;
    Lee Valley $300 & ~$75p&p = ~$375;
    Lee Valley $300 & ~$150p&p = ~$450.

    I know LV have a reputation for excellent after sales service and fast dispatch. If I buy from them I can choose a A2, O1 or PM-V11 iron.

    If I go to my local supplier I get the choice of A2 steel... or the plastic blade the plane is shipped with. I don't know why I would go to my local supplier? They appear to be just a middleman. They don't add value to the transaction, only cost.

    Cheers, Vann.
