    Default Saw Shot for Ray G

    Well a few photos because I haven't sorted out the URL thing. The S+J 16" backsaw appears to be of the same vintage as Kiwi's. The Sorby, again a 16, looks more recent.

    Hi Bob,

    Thanks for posting that, It dates from the "Golden Era" of Spear and Jackson.

    This is kiwi's S&J which can be dated to 1866-1875 because it is marked for an ironmonger who operated within those dates. It's unusual in itself to get good dates for S&J simply because they were in business for such a long period of time..



    Yours is pretty much identical.

    At 16" long that would be a "real" tenon saw, that would be a very nice saw to use.

    I haven't looked too closely at the Sorby yet...
