For anyone wondering why it would wear as well as it does - this is the spec sheet where I get bar stock from (but I can only get it in one thickness, which is a bummer). No guarantee LV used this composition, but I've never used any other steel that feels identical to V11. Interesting that it took someone so long to try it as it's long been known to outperform a lot of much harder to sharpen steels in rope slicing tests (which is similar wear to planing wood). It would make a nice pocket knife, but it's not any tougher than O1 so you have to have clean wood and no abuse to get the edge life out of it that it's capable of. If you have wood with silica in it, it'll quickly roll a wire edge up on it like it does anything else.

(here is a guitar peghead in rosewood - you can see the silica in it and you can see the lines left behind on the wood. I don't think anything tolerates silica in wood like this - high speed steel doesn't either).

Zoom in to see the lines and silica in the pores if necessary.
