    Nothing constructive to add.
But Ian this a brilliant idea, all the information a plane junkie could want in one place.

We may never turn our screens off, or even remember we had family or friends.

    Cheers Matt.[emoji106][emoji106]

OW., this thread was set up to provide links to information on generic information on plane types rather than individual "raries", so I have copied your post into its own thread in 'hand tools'. You'll likely get a better response that way....

    Cheers,

Following on from the "Woden Plane" thread, I'd like to suggest the late David Lynch's Record Hand Planes site Record Hand Planes instead of (or as well as) the Record Planes site linked in the first post.

    Done.

BTW, the double-posting isn't your fault, it's a programme glitch. They were 'working on it' weeks ago, but it's still happening to me, too. It's annoying because it is intermittent, I'll have no trouble for 3 or 4 posts, then the next one will come up with the "do you want to leave page" box, & I know it's going to double-post if I click 'yes'.

    Cheers,
    IW

Default Stanley (Eng.) "Hints on using Stanley planes"

Warning, moderately large file (4.1Mb). I don't have Adobe pro so couldn't save the file with he pages in the right position, but it's easy to rotate the page when you open the file (& enlarge the page).

Default Spare parts for Stanley planes

This might be a useful link for those trying to resuscitate old Stanleys.

It's mildly surprising what bits & pieces are still available, but do be aware that while much hasn't changed in the last 100 plus years, a few things like thread sizes have changed on some planes mostly since metrification, so it pays to check on what you are ordering.

For example the 5 1/2 was changed from a 2 1/4" blade to a 2 3/8" blade in around the mid 1930s. The 2 3/8 blade has to be trimmed to fit through the mouth of a plane meant for the 2 1/4" blade, which can be a major or moderate bother depending on your gear & expertise. However, I discovered through ignorance that the lever-cap for the later, wider planes will fit in the narrower body. At least it did for my type 11 (~1911-1919), other types might need a bit of a trim. Fortunately, LCs don't go AWOL as often as some other parts!

If anyone else has knowledge/experience of other planes & parts where you need to be careful when finding missing or damaged bits, please chip-in...

    Cheers,
    IW
