    Default Brigalow Jointer

I have been wanting to add a Jointer to my Jack & block plane & decided to try one of David Finks A2 blades.

The plane is made from Brigalow which is not the easiest wood to work with as it tends to tear out when you least expect it too. However it is stable and takes a really nice finish. The plane is made to take a 1 3/4" blade and is 18" long, the areas around the handholds I textured with a carving chisel and added a thumbhole at the rear of the blade to provide additional grip.
The wedge is made from Brigalow and ebonised to match the colour of the blade.

The plane has the mouth set to take a 20 thou shaving, but when reduced to 1 thou takes of a final finish that is better than a power sander, and only requires a coat of very thin shellac and wax to leave a finish that will put a smile on any woodies face.

The David Finck blade comes unfinished with a bevel on the blade. Before use it is necessary to flatten the back, Grind and Hone the bevel, and polish the chipbreaker. This process probably took me around two hours or so but I am a bit anal about the finish I want, and was very pleased with the results.
I will be monitoring the performance of the Finck blade compared to my other high carbon Hock blades which I think give an excellent result but may not be as good at keeping a really sharp edge.

    Regards

Really nice work. Thanks for sharing it with us.

If you aren't already aware Helmut (thumbsucker on this forum) has some very nice D2 blades available for a rediculously low price for what they are. Might be worth a look for your next plane.
    Best regards, Luban

    John & Luban

    Thanks for the feedback.

Luban I am thinking of making a Scraper Plane and a smoother as I have more of the Brigalow, an iron from Helmut may suit & I will get in touch.

    Regards
