Paul nothing like that a all.
Here are the 3 saws from the kit similar handles one has a jut out inside the grip area I think the one I replaced had the same I cut out and made it without, I hated that bit so did dad. Looking at the screw nuts I may have been wrong about the brass ones.

There are quite a lot like this around ... they tend to be down a rung or two on the Great Scale (no offence).
I had at least one like it ... all rivets I think ... maybe I sent it to Matt

(this was made by Disston I think - not in the UK - similar do you think?)

Deffinitelly not Australian saws, we wouldn't have anything as ugly as those here Ray, I think they may have even been illegal here. A custom wheelin handle just might make all the difference

Here are some more modern-era handles ...
The top one is an unknown-brand pruning saw and probably the oldest.
The other three are all S&J. The handle on #2 in beech looks blocky, but feels silky and smooth with no finish on it (having been sanded back only a little from 'a bit untidy'). Actually - it pretty much looked like the pruning saw handle does now.
A couple of Disstons and an Atkins. I'm not inclined to these modern saws/handles ... but the last one has quite a bit of character in the timber of the handle. The grips on them all are way too big for even four of my fingers, let alone three.
The rest of these are all British saws ... mostly unknown brands ... there is a Slack & Sellars ... the little one is Toga.
Some of these feel quite heavy and unrefined.

That one is Slack, Sellars & Co ... the medallion is a bit scratched up ... but similar to the one on the backsaw.
