Spanners - What Brand
Hei Guys,
Wifey is going to let me get some decent tools before we move country, I'm in the market for some decent spanners - about 6-20mm and the equivilent in imperial, and I'd like to get both open end/ring and double ended ring spanners.
As much as I would like go Sidchrome, I won't have the budget since I want a few other bits as well.
What brands are there worth getting in the mid range - not cheap crap, but cheaper than Sidchrome and Snap on.
Cheers
Paul

It's a while since I had to buy any new spanners but I was impressed by Repco's own brand (they have them made for them of course). Some years back they used to be about half the price of Sidchrome. The only complaints I had was that it was not so easy to see the sizes on the sockets as they were etched and not stamped in like Sidchrome's.

Smidsy, to which country are you moving? Spanners are heavy (ie, expensive to ship), and you might find they are cheaper where you are going.
When I needed new spanners to replace a collection lost in a fire I bought Kinchrome. They seemed like a good blend of price and reputation. Can't confirm how they perform, because they get used rarely and lightly.... as long as the government is perceived as working for the benefit of children, the people will happily endure almost any curtailment of liberty and almost any deprivation. There was quite a long thread/debate on this exact subject a while back (I'm guessing about 6 months, but could be more).
Here it is https://www.woodworkforums.com/f152/spanners-sockets-sidchrome-kincrome-stanley-superworks-etc-70116
Probably worth a read.

Ron, going country as in country WA - about to be posted as a new grad D&T teacher.
I know I'd have access to school stuff but I'd like my own basic kit.

Smidsy,
I have had Super Cheap's "Gold" series spanners and sockets for a long time and find them to be excellent value for money. Come with a lifetime guarantee as well.
Hope this helps..Cheers
