I don't know if you are interested in replacing the missing medallion. You could keep your eyes peeled for another S & J in poor nick and salvage the medallion. You might pick it up for very little or even nothing.

If you are a trifle impatient this current Ebay listing may be of interest:

Vintage Saw Medallion Nuts Spear & Jackson Sheffield | eBay

    Attachment 474388

It comes with extra saw screws. Postage is unfortunately as much as the starting price: Probably a small pre paid package.

Regrettably I am unable to assure you that it will make the saw perform any better .

Thanks for the hint. Very tempting.

I guess you are right. It's like putting stripes on a car and expect it to drive faster. But sure looks good. I mean the medallion on the saw. Not the stripes on a car [emoji12]

As a kid growing up we used to joke that a stage one performance enhancement was to put "go faster" stripes down the side of the car and remove the hub caps.

Ps: On a more serious note, every saw should have a medallion or similar. I think it is part of what makes the modern saw so unappealing. It is as if the company is so ashamed of the product they do not want to identify with it. The medallion proudly says "Look at me."

Paul, I wish I could blame you. But I know I am adult and responsible for my own actions. I went ahead and bought the medallion... I just wanted the saw to also look good and justified it also that if I buy a different saw later for it's medallion then I just will want to restore that as well. I tell myself I am just protecting myself from getting an other saw. But really I just wanted it [emoji6]

    Cheers

Well at least you are honest, CK - many of us would have tried to bluster & say it was to enhance the value of our highly-collectible saw or some such guff, when our real reason was the same as yours....

I was watching (just out of interest you understand and desperately trying to put the voyeur behind me) and noticed that it sold with only a single bid and I was wondering whether it would show up in this thread .

All good. It is a very understandable action. I have been known to purchase the occasional medallion or saw screw myself.

Just to close this off. The medallion arrived and it looks great. I am glad I did that.

    Thanks
