Default Spokeshave No 151 - Stanley OR ?

Am interested to hear whether Stanley 151 spokeshaves all had "Stanley" and/or "Made In xxx" cast on them. I have seen a few spokeshaves advertised as Stanley brand, but no markings other than No 151 on them. Just wondering

mine has "made in usa" under the right handle. Nothing on the top.

i've never bought a stanley spokeshave on purpose, so I don't know if this is always the case - they've come along with other things (planes with shaves thrown in) and I'm happy to have them, as the premium shaves are nice, but they're seriously lacking if you want to take more than a fine cut. Spokeshaves are a very useful tool in dimensioning or following a drawknife, and the LN shaves, for example, are made in a way that they're supposed to be disaster proof for a wide cross section of users.

At any rate, that's the story for mine. it's definitely a stanley, though - the original blade flatly proclaims it.

Stanley USA often put the "Stanley" name only on the cutting iron. The bench planes would have various patent dates cast into the bed, and sometimes you'd find "Stanley" on the lever that adjusted the iron's angle relative to the bed. But, often, you knew it was a Stanley as opposed to someone else's product only by the cutting iron - which explains a lot of the Frankenplanes out there.

    Gary,
I have two No 151's, one cast underneath "Made In England No 151" and on the top of the blade "[STANLEY] Made in England".

The other one is a Falcon, cast underneath says "Made In Australia F 151" as well as the number "6" lying on its back. The cap has "Falcon" cast into it and on the blade "Falcon Pope made in Australia."

    Cheers,
    Geoff.
