    Default Stanley 246 mitre box

    On this thread:

    https://www.woodworkforums.com/f163/r...tre-box-68359/

I read with great pleasure the beautiful work done in restoring Stanley mitre boxes.

I recently bought a 246 mitre box and have cleaned it up. It works well but he stock jumps around; I was thinking of clamping it but upon reading the forum it is clear I am missing the sliding stock guides.

Does anyone know where I can get them? Stan Faulin's Tool Trip website is out of action. Does anyone have his email address?

Alternatively, may I perhaps get from one of you a pdf of the manual for the 246? If I can access part numbers my search might be easier. (I am not capable of making these parts in metal myself; but from a drawing I could get this done.....)

    Thanks
    Mark

    Many thanks Ian, very helpful.

The stock guides are available on this page:

    Stanley Tools Service Parts

Does anyone know which item/s on this page (if any) would clamp the stock guide in place?

Attached is a picture of platform where clamping device goes.

[Need to cut a dado across the mounting board to accommodate the stock guide].

    Cheers

Hi Mark , the part does not show on that page (the one that clamps the stock guide ).
Its a plate with a rebate that fits over the stock guide and is held with a winged thumb screw .
I can take a pic of the parts you need if you would like.Yes you need to cut the dado across the mounting board to accomadate the stock guides the

Heres a pic of the back of mine showing the stock guide stop pin and the clamp arrangement.
The stop pin is part of the stock guide and stops it from pulling right out when you adjust the stock guide right out to the front of the box .
The clamp has a groove in it for the stock guide to slide through and the stop pin comes against the clamp. the winged screw clamps the clamp onto the stock guide to lock it in place.

I can take clearer pics if you want.

    Many thanks Kev, very helpful.

I think I have enough now to get some guides and clamps made up; if I need a better photo for my metal guy I'll let you know, but pretty sure I've now got it all covered.

    Very grateful for everyone's help,

    Mark
