Stanley No. 7
I picked this up from a forum member about 18 months ago. Description was it needed a little TLC. It certainly was is good condition.
Using the online Stanley dating site , it’s a Type 15 - 1931 to 1932.

I only got to it last week. Luckily I have a metre square surface plate at work so truing up the sole and sides wasn’t a big job - I fact they needed very little work.
The blade is a Canadian Sweetheart, well worn, sharpened but not at 90 o. That was an easy fix. Loose pain was removed and a coat of White Knight epoxy gloss black spayed on.. Front knob and rear tote sanded back, stained and shellaced.
The only real problem is the threaded rod holding the rear tote. It should be 110mm long but someone had hacksawed off 5 mm - you could see the cut. If you look at the brass nut in the tote you will see it’s recessed. It needs to be so it can just grab the thread. I have ordered a new one.

Gave it a run on some merbau, gingerly because the tote is only holding on but a thread, but it’s a keeper.

You will need to add a couple of washers if you get a longer screw?
Nice looking plane. I look forward to tuning some planes one day myself.

Yes re the washers. One of the previous owners in Canada had deepened the top hole in the tote so the nut would grab the shortened thread.
Theres something very satisfying about the “whooooooosh” of the plane blade as it cuts a very thin shaving with ease after fettling.

Looks like you have a very nice bit of kit there, Lappa.
One of my most-used planes is my 07 (a Record, obviously), but a nice old one with Rosewood woodwork that I picked up for $50 at a flea-market - one of the best bargains I've ever got! A quick cleanup of some rust along one side & a heavier aftermarket blade (Hock) was enough to get it going like a champ. It has very little original paint left anywhere, but that doesn't seem to affect performance...
Cheers,IW
