Default Stanley Bailey No. 3 or ????

    G'day All,
After attending the forum BBQ, and witnessing the use of some restored planes, I remembered that there was a Stanley plane in a cupboard at the back of the shed..been there forever.....can't even remember aquiring it.
So I read all the posts...search the forum....downloaded history and all that. Then decide to pull it apart and see what's what.
The front of the body says Bailey No. 3.
BUT.......the tote and knob are moulded plastic.
The lateral adjusting lever is blind riveted on
and none of the metal like the blade/chipper/adjusting nut looks real.
None of the history stuff mentions this sort of manufacture, and its marked "Made in England".
    Is it a "chuck"????

    Regards,
    Noel

Nope, not a chuckaway, unless it's got terminal cancer.

The plastic means it's prolly newer than about the 1970's, which means it isn't as nice as an older US made jobby, but still worth the effort.

The plastic is painful, but can be replaced with wood at some stage either bought or homebrew.

Give it a clean up (no more than an hour) sharpen the blade and give it a try. It should work with that little effort, and then you can decide if it's worth the extra effort of fixing/cleaning it up properly or not.

    Thanks Schtoo,
Saturday was my first look at an refurbished plane that produced an endless shaving, so I got all enthusiastic!!
Currently, got the bits in a citric acid bath, so in the morning I'll clean up, have a practise sharpen, and so how I go.
    Something new every day!!
    Regards,
    Noel
