My blades arrived last Friday. I was able to match them to two 60's vintage No's 4 & 5 without any need to file the mouths. They work perfectly and only required a tiny secondary bevel. The cap irons fit without any difficulty and although there is considerable play with blade adjustment all works fine, producing see through shavings. Many thanks to Thumbnail in particular for bringing this batch to a conclusion. I hope DJ's problems are now behind him and his truck has recovered from major surgery

Helmut
Some time back I commented that I believed the finish produced by a Ron Hock blade was marginally superior to an A2 blade, but that the edge of the A2 blade had greater durability, that is not the case with M2.
I have now successfully resolved the problem of the short back irons by widening the slot and brazing in an insert. I honed the blades & included a very small back bevel a la David Charlesworths technique. I have planed pieces of Western red cedar, Radiata, Oak, Toona Ciliata, NG Rosewood, Brigalow, Tassie Oak, Spotted Gum & I am very, very, pleased with the finish produced, even after planing the tougher crankier woods, a superb cut can be produced on the WRC without further honing. No question for me that M2 steel is the preferred blade, for both quality of cut & durability.
