The probably will be left unmarked to keep the cost down.

No Problem, I think it will look good next to the Lines of A Stanley Bench Plane.

Great, Thanks TS. I hope my request didn't seem rude.. I was trying to do two things at once (something I'm told men should avoid) and re reading it now i looks a little short.

Seeing as though we're on to sheet 2 I'll confirm that my list above is accurate but I'd love a second No8 if I may.

    Default Cap Irons (alias chipbreakers)

I can see only reasons why the original cap iron WILL fit, MUST fit, and no reasons (apart from it may be a bit narrow) why it could not fit. The cap iron receives the yoke through the blade iron, delivers the blade iron in the correct range at the mouth and the lever cap mounting screw passes though the blade iron and cap iron. The dimensional relationships of the yoke, mouth, levercap mounting screw are determined by the plane, if the Plane iron is manufactured to clear all these bits and pieces, the cap iron MUST fit. If the blade is a bit narrower than the original cap iron, I can live with that, if it is a bit wider I possibly can live with that. I think it is better to be clearer on this point rather than just a vague warning that it may not fit, it may influence people's decisions to buy cap irons or indeed whther they purchase a blade iron at all (if they think they must also purchase the cap iron)

    Cheers
    Michael
It's my understanding that almost any Stanley pattern blade will fit any other Stanley pattern plane (e.g. any 2" wide blade will fit any No.4 or No.5). However the Cap Iron is designed for the plane (not the blade) and changing cap irons may well result in problems. With this in mind I'll stick to ordering my blades without cap irons thanks.

    Cheers, Vann

Awesome, thanks TS, you're a great man

    If you please:
    2 of: 50mm x 6mm x 100 mm for Wooden Hand Planes
1 of: 2" Stanley replacement w/ chip breaker
    1 of: 2 3/8" Stanley Replacement w/ chip breaker

If you don't mind me saying so, the name on the stanley replacements should be on the other side of the iron. In it's present state it won't be visibly once installed

    Hi Vann,

I think you've been misinformed, most Stanley parts are readily interchangeable, because the plane is designed with quite wide manufacturing tolerances. So we can easily swap blades, cap irons, lever caps etc without a hassle. The cap irons aren't designed for an individual plane, and it seems that as long as you get a couple of key measurements pretty accurate, they will fit any Stanley plane.

I know that Peter McBride stated earlier that "dimensions in fractions of a mm are absolutely critical in this machine" but this is simply not the case at all. The beauty of this plane's design is that you can easily chop and change parts from different eras and different manufacturers, and it will almost always work.

Aye, possibly, but I'll stick with my decision .

I did some research on the matter before ordering my Clifton Stay-Set cap iron (which is still in transit from Sheffield unfortunately). I found some good information at www.fine-tools.com and also on the Highland Hardware website under the title of "Fitting Clifton Plane Irons In Bailey Planes". However, I think that most later Stanley and Record cap irons use very similar dimensions, and it's probably only the very early ones that might cause concern - the Hock design seems to work for most people.

    Anyway, good luck.

    Cheers, Vann.

    thanks for the info

I had a read of the clifton info that you referred to.

I think we will be okay for points 1 and 3. Both of those points relate to the overall thickness of the blade + chipbreaker. It was one of the first things Helmut considered and he based his thicknesses on the proven Hock measurements, so these chipbreakers and blades should work out ok.

As for the second point, it relates the old 'yoke hole' distance argument, and I think this one has also been well covered.

The other site you mentioned is here http://www.fine-tools.com/clift.htm It has some measurements of clifton chipbreakers at the bottom of the page

I have crunched the numbers and we have used all of the 800 mm x 2.5 mm x 1500 mm M2 sheet.

Since I have given us a month to get organized. I have added another sheet to the order so that people like slow6 and kman-oz can get their share. However if we do not fill a second sheet some folks will have to miss out.

So for the moment I am still taking orders for Stanley Replacement Blades and Plane Blades for Wooden Hand Planes.

The plane blades for Wooden Hand Planes will come in, 50 x 4 x (Any length you want), 50 x 6 x (Any length you want), and 60 x 6 x (Any length you want). At these sizes they will also fit your HNT Gordon, Jack, Smoother, Trying and Jointer Planes.

We are up to 117 plane blades at this point.

The following members have expressed interest in joining the Stanley Bench Plane Replacement Blade Bulk Order. (Please check that I have you down for the right amount.)

    Hi TS,

Back in Sydney after a week in Brisbane, I would like one blade & chip set for a #4&1/2, I will get back to you about the measurements for the wooden planes.

I realise that the second sheet may not go ahead.

    Regards

    Brendan

I think we should be OK with a few stragglers we should just make it. We have a month until the 30th of November. My concern is Xmas with places slowing down in December. That is why If we can fill a second sheet asap all the better.
