Stanley Fatmax Chisels - thoughts?
Hi
I've read plenty about older stanley chisels here, but not a mention of the fatmax through-tang ones that I've seen. I picked up three in odd widths quite cheaply second or third hand a few months ago and I'm quite impressed with them. They hold their edge well (until you drop then on the concrete...sigh) and the balance and ability to really put some force behind them is decent.
I've got dad's old toledo's (when he gives them back!) and a few old Bergs for comparison and find in comparison the newer Stanley's aren't half bad for the price. Anyone else had good or bad experiances with them?. I might just have been really lucky to find a couple that are semi-decent....

Despite the downhill turn in quality from Stanley in the last 60 years, the FatMax chisels are excellent for the price; they take a keen edge and hold it fairly well, the new steel core will take just about anything (and if you manage to break it they'll give you a new one - happened to my boss) and they're cheap enough that you can afford to be a bit rough with them and not have to worry so much - a whole set of them is about the same price as 2 Japanese chisels.
