My computer is out of action but I should be up and running asap.

Would you be interested in drawing the CAD files for the block plane blades, and the spokeshaves. Plus altering the cap irons to reflect the critical distance changes?

Regarding the number of slots on the block plane blades, I have no opinion. If anyone can suggest why 8 is better then 3 please do so.

Locking at Lie-Nielsen site it says:

    • Stanley 9 1/2 Replacement Blade New Style 3 Slots, 1-5/8" wide $76.00
    • Stanley No. 9 1/2 Replacement Blade Old Style 11 Slots, 1-5/8" wide
So it seems Stanley changed the design. Maybe Slow6 can tell us more??

Why do the block plane blades have the huge space? I do not own any stanley block planes, so I know nothing about how they work.

Helmut are those the blades for the Stanley / Record 151 with the slots cut in the blade ?
    Yes.

You would need to order 20 of them to make it worth the time and effort. I am sure Stanley will one day make replacement blades. Unless they get out of the tool business before that.

    Helmut, PM sent.

I know you believe you understand what you think I wrote, but I'm not sure you realize that what you just read is not what I meant.

Helmut, I have one of the block planes that has 3 slots and the larger hole. I'll post some pics for you tonight.

Also, I'll put my hand up for some bevel grinding if you or DJ need help. I know DJ had quite a lot of work from the last order.

I suspect the number of slots may have something to do with changes in the design of blade adjuster. I have attached a photo of my 60 & 09 with three & eleven slots respectively which will permit comparison with others. I would be pleased to provide any measurements you require.

    Regards

20 blades might be a bit much even for me!

    So I will just order
    :
2 x 2" with cap iron and screw
    2 x 2 3/8" with cap iron and screw
    2 x spokeshave blades
    2 x blockplane blades
    Cheers

    Helmut

I fettled a couple of 151 spoke shaves a few years ago, and for the benefit of all forum members :

    1. Aside form the obvious benefits of the M2 steel the thicker blade will result in a much finer mouth and some filing of the mouth may be required.
    2. The dimensions of the slots are very important. The axial dimension must be wide enough to achieve a good fit without too much backlash, and the width must be sufficient to avoid fouling of the screws which will make adjustment very difficult, and cause the blade to cut into the screws.
    3. I also filed the bed for the blade to get rid of the roughness in the casting, to provide a nice solid fit and improve the ease of adjustment.
    4. Fitting a 3mm thick blade with the above adjustments will provide a dramatic improvement in the performance of these shaves, & be well worth any time spent in fettling

Apologies If I am stating the obvious here.

Please put me down for 2 spokeshave blades

    Regards

I'm pretty well bladed up at the moment but would like a longer cap iron for the no 8 2 5/8 iron - I have the short one from the last order but am shuffling around among irons

    Default Closing date?

Do you have an estimated closing date / date for money due in.
Skint at this moment but should have more pocket money soon.

    Thanks

The last order took almost six months from start to finish this batch should be faster. I would say you have three months.

I am thinking that we will only use one sheet this time. That is about 120 blades.

That way everyone who missed out the first time, can get their blades.

    Hello Ian,
I would be happy to take one of the 2 5/8 blades off your hands.
I don't need a cap-iron as this will not be used on a Stanley plane.
I have sent you a PM
    Cheers

OK, just to whet your appetites.
DJ was kind enough to send me one of his 2 inch blades and it came in today's mail.
He had already spent some time on the blade so it was just a matter of a few minutes on the stones and ........voila ................ shavings like these!!!
They don't come any better in this neck of the woods.
I am a very happy little vegemite.
Many thanks DJ and Helmut, and special thanks to DJ for his consideration.

I have created a pdf of allocations at this point.

We will be producing blades for the following sizes:

    • 1 3/4" Blade - with Optional 1 3/4" Cap Iron
    • 2” Blade - with Optional 2” Cap Iron
    • 2 1/8” Blade - with Optional 2 1/8” Cap Iron
    • 2 1/4” Blade - with Optional 2 1/4” Cap Iron
    • 2 3/8” Blade - with Optional 2 3/8” Cap Iron
    • 2 5/8” Blade - with Optional 2 5/8” Cap Iron
    • Sargent 714
    • Sargent 718
    • #102 Block Plane (Old Style)
    • #102 Block Plane (New Style)
    • #103 Block Plane (Old Style)
    • #103 Block Plane (New Style)
    • 2 1/8” Spokeshave

I have sent a PM to Woodwould regarding the creation of the CAD files. We will have to make two version of the block plane blades in the old and new styles each. Slow6 wants some blades for his collection of Sargent planes. If you want a blade that is not listed, above post your interest in the thread, and if there is enough interest we will have them made up.

    *EDIT*

We will also make the slot in the cap iron narrower down to 2 mm from 3 mm, this will make the adjustment more positive.

I am not on the current allocation list-see #17 above if this is a mistake.
