Iron availability?
Hi Helmut,
Is the order book full? Or still room?
I am interested in:
1 x 1 3/4" bevelled + cap
1 (maybe 2) x 2" bevelled + cap(s).
probably a couple extra 2" caps, too.
Sorry for this question if I missed it, but is price in AUD or NZD? (saw NZD somewhere in the thread and got confused).
Anway, I am USD. May I still order? Do you have PayPal? (if not, maybe charge a bit extra for the irons/cap to cover its cost, and setup for those overseas?) Or do I just send an equivalent cheque in USD?
(My Florida Bank takes CAD cheques related to my business all the time - and clears it as USD)
Paying extra for shipping is expected.
Let me know?
Thanks!
Chris

brontehls I have added you.
cahudson42, I have added you to the order for:
1 x 1 3/4" bevelled + cap
2 x 2" bevelled + caps.
2 x 2" caps
In the US is OK, the last time we did a Stanley order we shipped some to your Canadian cousins.
The best way is via paypal, you will get an about 9% saving on the listed price because of the exchange rate. Postage will cost you about $40 Australian if we get it airmailed to you.
I will PM you with payment details when the order starts.
I however need to
Hope that helps.

OK Helmut
Sounds good. Order amounts are OK - I may ask to order more later..:>)
I will await your PM on total costs, paypal account, airmail fees, etc.
I really look forward to the new irons! Aussies/kiwis really know your stuff when it comes to irons. Leaves us in the US 'in the dust' in comparison..:>)
Thanks!
Chris

I am getting enquires from people asking about what happened to the Second Stanley Order. Due to delays with finishing the chisel order, the Second Stanley Order has been delayed. However not wishing to hold up the Stanley anymore, I am going to get the ball rolling.
Attached is a pdf of what people have ordered. We have allocated 80 blades to date. I am also expecting about a dozen blades to be ordered through the night class students at the ANU furniture course. This means that we have about 100 blades allocated, with room for another 100. I am however not going to wait to fill the order, instead opting to fill the order over during the production process. Most of the blades are bench plane blades, and couple of #60 1/2 block plane blades and spokeshave blades. We have had not interest in the #102 & #103 block plane blades so it looks like we will drop them.
I will send a PM to wouldwould who is doing the CAD files. I will send everyone a PM within a week to confirm their orders, prices, and bank details. It makes no sense to hold up the Stanley order any longer now that the chisel order is almost wrapped up.
To Recap The Details
Cap Irons
Cap Irons are optional for all the Stanley/Record Bench Plane Blades. The problem with the short Cap irons has been resolved. The cap irons will come in longer lengths relative to there widths.
The critical dimension moves from 92 mm @ 1 3/4", then 95 mm @ 2", then 98 mm for a 2 3/8", then 104 mm for a 2 5/8" blade. The cap irons increases by about 3 mm every time the blade jumps up one size. When confirming your order please make sure that your current cap iron is with in the above state distances.
Steel
The Steel will be 3 mm thick M2 steel, and the blades should have a nominal thickness after grinding of about 2.8 mm.
Cost
The price for any of the blades minus a bevel is $40, and the price for a blade with a bevel is $45. As a few people have discovered grinding bevels on M2 is not an easy task, and for the $5 it cost's to get it done for you, is well worth it.
The cost of the Cap iron needs is $15 per cap iron, and this will come beveled and tapped for a 1/4" 28 TPI UNF thread and a matching cap screw.
Postage is usually $11 via a prepaid Australia post 3 kg satchel anywhere in Australia.
3rd Party Manufactures
The M2 tool steel will be suppled by Bohler Uddeholm (Australia)
The laser cutting will be done by Wigley Engineering
The cap screw will be made by Parish Engineering
The heat treating will be done by Surface Technology
The milling and grinding will be done with Sutton's
Dj is happy to do the running around for us. He has however declined to grind the bevels again. Which is completely understandable.
ETA
Having worked out all the bugs in the process, and the technical challenges faced in the first batch order, this should be a much smoother and shorter thread.
This WILL BE THE LAST ORDER I WILL DO.
I originally undertook these orders in part simple to see if we could do it, and a way of contributing to the this community that has given me so much. I however am ready to move on with other projects in my life.
Here is the pdf.

TS, you have me down for blades and cap irons; I only requested cap irons (3 x 2" and 2 x 3-3/8"). Thanks.
.
I know you believe you understand what you think I wrote, but I'm not sure you realize that what you just read is not what I meant.
Regards, Woodwould.
